Education in Moscow

Russia is a country of Olympiads for schoolchildren. Thousands olympiads are held in different subjects. Winners of the best of them enter without exams in universities.

PISA-2016

The first 300 schools (from 600+) in Moscow entered the top five of the world's schools, and the first 100 schools became almost the best in the world, behind only Shanghai.

In the field of mathematical literacy, Moscow schools show the highest results. The top 100 schools in Moscow by their results were ahead of Singapore and Hong Kong. 26% of students are at the highest levels of mathematical literacy. Moreover, if we compare students and schools that showed the highest result in mathematical literacy, then these results turned out to be higher than the leading educational system of PISA 2012 - Shanghai.

The first mathematical Olympiad took place in 1884 in Austria-Hungary. In the Soviet Union, the first olympiads were held

1933 in Tbilisi,
1934 in Leningrad,
1935 in Moscow.

Moscow and St. Petersburg Mathematical Olympiads for schoolchildren are the oldest mathematical Olympiads in Russia. Moscow Mathematical Olympiad is one of the oldest and authoritative in the world (MMO). In 1978, Maxim Kontsevich won the MMO. In 1998, he received the Fields Medal Prize (Nobel Prize for Mathematicians). MMO traditionally takes place in February-March. Within the framework of the Moscow Mathematical Olympiad, a traditional "Mathematical Holiday" (Математический Праздник) for 6-7 classes in the middle February.

The traditional place of the Olympiad ("Mathematical Holiday") is Moscow Lomonosov's State University. About 10,000 schoolchildren of the 6th and 7th grades took part in the 28th festival, february 19.

The "Holiday" (Праздник) includes an olympiad, interesting lectures for schoolchildren and parents. While the jury checks the work, the guys participate in mathematical games, solve entertaining puzzles, watch math cartoons. In the evening, the winners and prize winners of the Olympiad are awarded. http://olympiads.mccme.ru/matprazdnik/

This year the Mathematical Festival was held in St. Petersburg - in the Physics and Mathematics Lyceum # 30. Also the "Holiday" was held in Kharkov, Ukrain.

Tournament of Lomonosov is the largest in the world Olympiad

Tournament of Lomonosov is the largest in the world Olympiad for schoolchildren, held simultaneously in almost 500 locations in Russia and another countries. More than 80,000 participants.

It is conducted in the form of separate competitions in 9 subjects - mathematics, mathematical games, physics, chemistry, history, biology, linguistics, literature, astronomy and earth sciences. Each student can take part in one or several competitions of his choice. The assignments are aimed at pupils of grades 6-11. The tournament is held annually since 1978.

Any student can participate in the tournament. The program in all places of the tournament is the same. Schoolchildren of various classes compete on a common set of tasks. Competitions in all subjects are held simultaneously in different audiences for 5-6 hours. Schoolchildren (except students of grade 11) have the opportunity to freely move from the audience to the audience, independently choosing subjects and time. 11-graders perform assignments in one class. Assignments in all subjects are performed in writing (and in mathematical games, in addition, in some places of the tournament, oral reception of assignments for schoolchildren is organized).

XXXVIII Tournament took place on September 27, 2015. In total, 425 points of the Tournament were organized. 76,075 students were accepted, of whom 12,075 were awarded with certificates for a successful performance. A total of 160,510 works were submitted by the participants and tested in various subjects. The tournament last year was even more representative. In a few years the number of students will pass 100,000.

The diplomas with the formulation "For a successful performance at the competition on ... (subject)" were awarded to all students who successfully coped with the assignment on this subject (or in several subjects - then all these subjects are listed in the charter). Another tradition of the Tournament is the all-around score. It is given for "intermediate" results in subjects, when certain progress has been made in the work, but the participant did not receive the diploma for this subject. If one participant has 2 or more such points, his participation in competitions in different subjects will be noted by the certificate "for successful performance in all-round events".

..from the world's largest importer to the world's largest exporter during 30 years...

Grain deficit in the USSR is one of the most important reasons for the collapse.

Import of grain in the USSR:

* 1960 - 0.2 million tons (0.2% of domestic consumption)
* 1970 - 2.2 million tons (1.2% of domestic consumption)
* 1980 - 27.8 million tons (14% of domestic consumption)
* 1985 - 44.2 million tons (20% of domestic consumption)
* 1986 - 26.8 million tons (12% of domestic consumption)

Russia became the world's largest wheat-exporting country in 2015/16: it exported 25.5 million tons, surpassing Canada (22 million tons) and the United States (21.09 million tons).

In the agricultural year that began in July 2016, Russia could become the world's largest exporter of wheat, for the first time ahead of not only each of the countries separately, but the whole of the European Union, follows from the fresh forecast of the US Agriculture Ministry. Analysts of the ministry have raised the forecast for the wheat harvest in Russia by 7 million tons (as compared to the July forecast) to 72 million, mentioning the excellent weather conditions throughout the country. And the forecast of export of Russian wheat increased by 4.5 million tons to a record 30 million.

In 2016, the volume of grain in Russia in net weight amounted to 119.129 million tons.

In response to imposed sanctions, Russia imposed an embargo on food products. The embargo on western food production gave impetus to the development of national production, and the rise of grain became a kind of driving force. From January to July 2016, meat production in Russia grew by almost 14%, if compared with the successes of the previous year. The basis of the increase was pork with its increase of 15.4%, poultry indicators improved by almost 6%, beef by 3.6%.

"Bush's legs" is a common name of the chicken legs, imported from the United States. The name "Bush's legs" appeared in 1990, when a trade agreement was signed between Mikhail Gorbachev and George Bush Sr. on the delivery of frozen chicken legs to the USSR.

The USSR was the world's largest importer of food. In 1990-1991 the USSR imported about 1 million tons of meat.

The United States has become a major supplier of chicken to Russia. In 2006, 55% of all chicken sold was grown in Russia, 35% were imported from the United States, 6% from Brazil, and 4% from other countries, predominantly European. Russia accounted for up to 40% of US chicken exports.

August 7, 2014, the importation of all meat products from the US was banned.

In May 2017, four Russian livestock enterprises can begin deliveries to the European Union. In 2016, Russian poultry meat producers began to develop new markets for them. In particular, their products are supplied to Serbia, UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, China, African countries.

For food, Russia is turning into a "net exporting" country.
